Colors
RAL colors are a standard coding system used mainly in Europe and adopted in various fields such as painting, industry and construction.
The RAL system was developed in the 1920s and 1930s by the Institut für Gütesicherung und Kennzeichnung e.V. (Institute for Quality Assurance and Labeling) in Germany, and remains in use to this day.
RAL stands for “Reichs-Ausschuss für Lieferbedingungen und Gütesicherung,” which in Italian means “National Commission for Delivery Terms and Quality Assurance.” In 1927, the German Commission introduced the first 40-color palette, revolutionizing the industry: previously, manufacturers and customers used physical samples, but from then on they adopted the 4-digit RAL codes as a unique reference.
